imabi’s Highlights From the Women’s Night Safety Charter Summit
Recently, imabi had the privilege of being the headline sponsor for London’s biannual Women’s Night Safety Charter Summit.
It was an event that brought together a diverse range of voices and perspectives to address the crucial issues currently impacting women's safety at night.
Women’s Night Safety: The Summit
Hosted by the dynamic Amy Lamé, London’s Night Czar, the summit was a gathering of around 200 individuals, including signatories to the Women’s Night Safety Charter and potential new businesses and organisations keen to join the cause.
Held at the prestigious Hurlingham Club, the event showcased the seriousness of the challenges women face at night while still offering tangible solutions for a safer and more informed society.
Women’s Night Safety: The Agenda
One of the highlights of the summit was a presentation by Anthea Sully, CEO of White Ribbon, a charity dedicated to reducing violence against women and girls. Anthea's insights shed light on the urgent need for collective action in combating this important issue.
The event agenda also featured engaging panel discussions on topics ranging from women's safety at football matches to amplifying the voices of younger generations. These discussions provided invaluable insights into addressing the cultural and systemic challenges that contribute to unsafe environments for women.
Among the keynote speakers were Claire Waxman OBE, Independent Victims’ Commissioner for London, Eren Bessim, Training and Development Manager of the Safer Business Network, and Sam Mathys, Late Night Levy Manager at London Borough of Hackney, who shared their expertise on safeguarding measures and victim support services.
A Force for Positive Change
Reflecting on the significance of the summit, Amy remarked: “Being in a room full of people – men and women – who are dedicated to ending violence against women and girls is very, very powerful.”
Anthea echoed this sentiment, emphasising the importance of collaboration and different perspectives in driving meaningful progress. Only together can we create a society where every woman feels safe and empowered.
Women’s Night Safety: imabi Guardian
Our CEO, Mark Balaam, attended the summit, sharing: “We’re here today to create safer communities within schools, businesses and the workplace and we’re really trying to help tackle violence against women and girls – wherever it happens to occur.
Events like this, that put different perspectives together in one room, help to ensure we all work collectively to tackle an issue that’s endemic in our society.”
The event also marked the launch of imabi Guardian, our personal safety app specifically targeted at reducing incidents of violence against women and girls.
The app empowers individuals to report unwanted and inappropriate behaviours while providing access to crucial guidance and support from leading charities and organisations, as well as access to geolocation services and real-time updates.
