imabi & White Ribbon Shortlisted for ESG & Sustainability Awards 2024 with Euros Campaign to Improve Gender Equality
We're thrilled to announce that imabi, in partnership with White Ribbon UK, has been shortlisted for the prestigious ESG & Sustainability Awards 2024. Our joint campaign, which tackled gender-based violence and sexism around the Euro 2024 football tournament, has made it to the final round in the category for Best ESG Campaign or Case Study to Improve Gender Equality. The winners will be revealed this Thursday, 7th November.
The campaign, which launched in June, aimed to confront the alarming rise in sexist abuse and violence against women linked to major football events. According to recent statistics, three out of five women experience sexist abuse in person when attending football matches or watching games in pubs. Moreover, incidents of sexist chanting have reportedly quadrupled in just one year. Recognising these troubling trends, imabi and White Ribbon came together to make a stand and encourage a safer, more inclusive atmosphere for all fans.
At the heart of the campaign was a Euros Fixtures Guide that not only highlighted key Euro 2024 matches but also served as an educational tool to raise awareness about violence and harassment towards women in football settings. The guide was designed to reach both regular fans and those who might typically overlook these issues, promoting allyship and encouraging men to help make football spaces welcoming for everyone.
The guide included powerful reminders and practical advice to encourage positive fan behaviour, from “inclusive chanting” and “online conduct” to “challenging inappropriate behaviour.” By integrating these messages with the excitement of the Euros, the campaign sought to inspire fans to adopt respectful and responsible behaviours, both in-person and online.
For imabi, known for its safeguarding platform and innovative community safety tools, this campaign was a natural extension of its mission to create safer, more inclusive spaces. Working with White Ribbon UK, a leading charity focused on ending violence against women, added a powerful voice to the campaign.
This recognition from the ESG & Sustainability Awards highlights the importance of social responsibility in tackling issues like gender equality. By drawing attention to these challenges within the context of football, imabi and White Ribbon hope to create lasting change, promoting respect and equality both on and off the pitch.
As the awards night approaches, we’re honoured to be in the running and hopeful for the result. No matter the outcome, imabi and White Ribbon remain committed to advancing gender equality and safeguarding communities. Stay tuned this Thursday, 7th November, to find out if our Euros campaign will take home the award for Best ESG Campaign or Case Study to Improve Gender Equality.
