Women’s Night Safety Charter Summit 2024

The Women's Night Safety Charter Summit held in February and October 2024, has marked a powerful step forward in addressing safety and inclusivity for Women and Girls in both the day- time and night-time economies. February’s summit hosted at The Hurlingham Club in Fulham and October’s summit hosted at Brentford Football Club in Brentford, brought together policymakers, organisations, businesses, and community leaders with one collective goal: to create safer, more accessible spaces for everyone.

The Charter is part of the Mayor’s Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy and London’s commitment to the UN Women Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces global initiative.

Why the Women’s Night Safety Charter Matters

The Women's Night Safety Charter has been a rallying cry for collective action against violence, harassment, and fear that too often characterise women's experiences at night. Through commitments like improving safety measures, engaging local communities, and empowering women, the Charter is a practical framework for systemic change.

What was the key focus of the summits

The following were some of the key focus areas taken from the summits:

  • Collaborative Partnerships: Stakeholders emphasising the importance of public-private collaborations;

  • Technology and Innovation: Solutions like mobile safety apps, improved street lighting systems, and AI-powered monitoring tools were presented as strategies to enhance women's safety and confidence;

  • Empowering Women Through Awareness: Workshops and panel discussions underscored the power of education and awareness campaigns in fostering cultural shifts;

imabi's role at Women’s Night Safety Charter summits

In 2024, imabi had the privilege of participating in the Women’s Night Safety Charter Summit, which was held twice that year. In addition to attending as a guest speaker, imabi proudly took on the significant role of headline sponsor for the summit.

It was an empowering experience to come together with leaders, advocates, and change makers - all working towards improving the safety and well-being of women and girls at night.

From powerful discussions to actionable insights on how to respond effectively to reports of violence against women and girls, imabi is grateful for the opportunity to be part of this movement and is looking forward to continuing the work that can make a lasting impact in shaping a safer future for all.

In the Words of Amy Lamé...

"I think technology is an important part of our lives...it's really important that we look to all different types of solutions when it comes to making our places and spaces safer for women and girls... imabi has always been at the forefront of this kind of technology. It's always great to have them as the highlight sponsor. I know that the work that they do comes from the heart."

"So many people use tech as part of their daily lives. They're not even thinking about it in terms of tech, it's just life...I think that all aspects of our lives are going to be more and more influenced and dependent on tech so it's really important that we have tech that's reliable, that remains adaptable and changeable, adapting to new legislation, new situations...and imabi seems to be on top of it." – Former London Night Czar, Amy Lamé
