16 Days of Activism: Awareness, Activism, Advocacy and imabi’s Pledge
November 25th is a significant day on the global calendar. It marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and White Ribbon Day. It also kicks off the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign.
These events come together with a powerful mission: to raise awareness, promote understanding, and inspire action to end violence against women and girls around the world.
16 Days of Activism
16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global Campaign, led and promoted by activists and organisations around the world. It is a call for action - for individuals, communities, and organisations to unite in raising awareness, promoting gender equality and creating safer spaces for all.
Each day of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign encourages individuals and organisations to participate in events, share information, and challenge harmful societal norms that contribute to violence against women.
imabi, in association with partners and supporters, will take a lead by facilitating a daily “Did you know 💡” social media campaign. We seek to raise awareness and reach as many people as possible by sharing key information about gender-based violence on each day of the 16-Day Campaign.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was spearheaded by the United Nations as a day of action to eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls. Gender-based violence in its various forms – physical, sexual, psychological, and economic – is one of the most widespread abuses of human rights globally. According to UN data , nearly one in three women has experienced physical or sexual violence at some point in their lives, most often from their partners. This day is an important opportunity to shed light on these realities and advocate for systemic and social change.
White Ribbon Day
White Ribbon Day is a day of international movement, bringing men and boys together to work towards ending male Violence Against Women and Girls and promoting gender equality.
The “white ribbon” is a symbol of men’s pledge to never commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women. On this day, men are encouraged to wear a white ribbon, have discussions, sign pledges, and participate in campaigns aimed at promoting a culture of non-violence.
